Best Homemade Hot Sauce Competition

How to enter:

Just bring your hot sauce to the festival in some sort of clean container, please clearly mark the container with your name, email and phone number (please read the rules below about clean containers).

All entries must be dropped off at the main stage before Sunday afternoon at 2pm

Please write the name of the sauce on the container and on a separate paper attached to the container with your name, sauce name, email and phone number clearly marked at the top, please submit a weighted ingredient list for the sauce. The ingredient with the highest percentage by weight should appear first, the ingredient with the lowest percentage should appear last. If possible please list the type of chili used and what percentage is used.

The round of Judging by our experts will take place on the Sunday of the festival on the main stage at 5pm.

How it is judged :

Our experts will be marking the sauce out of 10 in five categories:

  • Aroma / nose
  • Use of chilis/heat profile*
  • Flavour / palate
  • Creativity / individuality / memorability
  • Finish / aftertaste / afterburn

*hotter does not mean a higher score.

The sauces will be tasted on the stage live by the judges and they will get a chance to see the list of ingredients before their final decisions, Judges will not know the name of the maker of each sauce.

The winners will be announced at the end of the Chili Festival at 6pm

Rules:

  1. you must have made the hot sauce yourself! Family recipes etc. are allowed.
  2. Non-commercial sauces only.
  3. Sauces should be prepared hygienically. Please research hot filling/canning processes before preparation. If it is a fermented sauce please indicate this on the ingredient list. Sauces that look or smell unsafe to eat will not be judged.
  4. our decisions are final
  5. we may tweak the rules as we see fit, to keep everything fair

Prizes:
Win a certificate signed by the judges, ultimate glory, your chance to defend your title next year, plus some goodies from the festival.
